MEET LYDIA

Lydia Bean is a mother, small business owner, and community leader running to be the next County Clerk of Tarrant County.
As a longtime champion for transparency in local government, Lydia has seen how badly Tarrant County needs fresh leadership, accountability, and accessibility in the County Clerk’s office. We need a County Clerk who will protect free and fair elections and stand up to extremism.
In February 2024, Lydia helped convince the Tarrant County Commissioner’s Court to cancel a multi-million dollar contract with a private prison that failed state inspection. Lydia co-founded a coalition that helps citizens advocate for their priorities with Tarrant County government. She has written about local government and civic engagement in the Washington Post, Vox, Washington Monthly, and the Dallas Morning News.
Lydia has the leadership experience and data management background to lead our County Clerk’s office efficiently and effectively. Lydia graduated from Austin College and earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from Harvard University. Lydia founded and is President of Equipa, a consulting firm that advises non-profits and foundations on strategy, evaluation and leadership development. She has published a book with Princeton University Press.
Lydia is a proven problem solver who brings people together. In 2014, she founded a nonprofit that brought people together across lines of race, religion, and income to work for policy change. Lydia led successfully campaigns to protect Texas families from predatory payday lenders and secure paid sick leave for workers.
Lydia is also co-founder of Whistleblower Aid, a pioneering non-profit legal organization that helps government employees report government lawbreaking without breaking the law. In 2019, Whistleblower Aid supported anonymous disclosures that led to the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
Lydia is married to public artist Norman Lee. They live in Arlington with their two young children and are members of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
I want my son and daughter to grow up in Tarrant County with opportunity and safety for all. That’s what I will fight for every day as County Clerk.

WHY I'M RUNNING
As a community leader, I've taken on the big fights: guaranteeing paid sick days, cracking down on payday lenders, speaking up for fairness and fiscal responsibility in county government. Now I want to fight for a Tarrant County that provides safety and opportunity for all of us.
